The State Medical Board of Ohio has suspended the medical license of central Ohio neurosurgeon Dr. Jeffrey Hatef Jr. following multiple patient deaths.

According to a February 12th notice, Hatef performed surgeries that were described as “excessive and/or unjustified.” The board focused on three patients in their 70s who were treated by Hatef last year. Two of those patients died after surgery— one on the same day and the other 11 days later.

The board stated that Hatef’s continued practice “presents a danger of immediate and serious harm to the public.”

Hatef, is listed as a neurosurgeon with Mount Carmel Health System on LinkedIn, has had his clinical privileges automatically suspended at all Mount Carmel facilities, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The Mount Carmel spokesperson provided a statement to NBC4:

“We are aware that the state medical board has suspended Dr. Hatef’s medical license. We fully support the state medical board’s investigative process and will cooperate with that process. We automatically suspended Dr. Hatef’s clinical privileges at all Mount Carmel facilities and placed him on administrative leave.”

The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center confirmed that Hatef was a resident from 2015 to 2022. Hatef is set to face a hearing before the State Medical Board.
