1935 – Ethiopia Invaded by Italy
1949 – First Black radio station, WERD, begins operating in Atlanta, GA
WERD Atlanta was the first radio station owned and operated by African-Americans. The station was housed in the Prince Hall Masonic Temple building on Auburn Avenue, in one of the wealthiest black neighborhoods in the country. Located in that same building was the headquarters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and staffed by Ella Baker.
1975 – Frank Robinson named manager of the Cleveland Indians
American former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder and manager, became the only player to win league MVP honors in both the National and American Leagues. Robinson won the Triple Crown, two World Series, and is currently 10th on All Time Home-runs List.  The Indians named him player-manager, giving him distinction of being the first black manager in the Majors.
1995 – Ex-football star O.J. Simpson is cleared today of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson
On October 3, 1995, in a jury verdict of “not guilty” for the two murders wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. An estimated 100 million people nationwide tuned in to watch or listen to the verdict announcement. Following Simpson’s acquittal, the crime remains unsolved to this day despite public opinion.
